Nepali Ambassadors’ Regional Conference held at Muscat, Oman on 26th september 2017
The Ministry of foreign Affairs, Government of Nepal organized today at Muscat a Regional Conference of Nepali Ambassadors and Heads of Mission stationed in West Asia and Africa Region.
The conference was organized on the occasion of the official visit of the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman. The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat, hosted the event.
The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister directed the participants of the conference to work for the safety, security and the wellbeing of the Nepali migrant workers in the region.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Krishna Bahadur Mahara instructed the Ambassadors to work towards enhancing the country’s image in the international arena and focus on conducting effective economic diplomacy.
Minister for Labour and Employment Hon. Farmullah Mansoor highlighted the various measures taken by the Government of Nepal to better manage foreign employment related issues and to address the problems faced by migrant workers.
The Ambassadors and Heads of the Mission made a presentation on their respective activities, opportunities & challenges.
Following matters were highlighted by the Ambassadors and Heads of the Mission: –
1) Concluding Bilateral Agreement or MoUs with labour receiving countries.
2) Appointing Honorary Consuls in various cities in the region;
3) Taking effective measures to curb malpractices in the field of labour recruitment and making migration safe, secured and dignified;
4) Additional Human Resource and budgetary support to effectively carry out Mission’s responsibility;
5) Identifying employment opportunities for skilled manpower;
6) Conducting economic diplomacy through effective co-ordination with all relevant agencies.
The Right Honorable Prime Minister also assured the Ambassadors that Government would take all the necessary measures to enable the mission to fulfill their responsibilities.
Foreign Secretary Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi moderated and conducted the conference and highlighted the objective of the conference and sought effective participation of all Ambassadors and Heads of mission. Mr. Bairagi also encourage the Ambassadors and Heads of the Mission to remain proactive for further strengthening the bilateral relations.
The Ambassadors and Head of mission appreciated Ministry of Foreign Affairs for organizing the Ambassador’s regional conference. They also thanked Ambassador Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal and the Embassy of Nepal in Muscat for hosting and making excellent arrangements for it.
