The Embassy of Nepal, Muscat organized an interaction program regarding “the role of Nepalese community residing in Gulf” in tourism promotion for “Visit Nepal 2020” on 05 July 2019 at the Residence of H.E. Ambassador in Muscat.
The program commenced with lighting of traditional oil lamp jointly by Her Excellency Ambassador Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal and Guest of Honour Ms. Nadhira Al- Harthy followed by the national anthems of the Sultanate of Oman and Nepal. Welcoming the guests, Ms. Krishna Kumari Gauli, Labour Attaché congratulated Ms. Nadhira for conquering Mt. Everest and described the Government’s policy of tourism promotion and “Visit Nepal Year 2020” campaign.
During the interaction program, the Nepali community expressed various ways to promote tourism. Some of them include placing the hoarding boards in the streets in Oman; advertising in local transport vehicles; distributing leaflets/brochures in Omani/ English language; participating in Muscat Festival and other tourism promotion programs in Oman; sponsoring Omani journalists to visit Nepal so that they could write about Nepal; coordinating with travel agencies in Oman for making tour package to Nepal; convincing at least 2-3 Omani people to visit Nepal by each Nepali working in Oman among others.
In the program, Her Excellency Ambassador Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal presented “Certificate of Appreciation” to Ms. Nadhira Al-Harthy, the first Omani lady to conquer Mt. Everest. Recalling her journey to Mt. Everest, she explained how she scaled Mt. Everest with the continuous effort of two years. She suggested that inviting the “Sherpas” as the trainers for mountaineering students in Oman would be great area of cooperation. She thanked the H.E. Ambassador and the Embassy and the Government of Nepal for the kind cooperation during her mission. The Nepalese community in Oman too appreciated Ms. Al Harthy for her great success and presented the Nepali handicrafts such as “khada” and “khukuri” to her.
Her Excellency Ambassador delivered a speech highlighting the various roles that can played by the Nepali community in Oman for tourism promotion and requested them to make it successful. She also congratulated Ms. Nadhira Al-Harthy for her successful attempt and regarded her as a “dreamer”. H.E. thanked the community for their constructive ideas to promote tourism.
Around 50 guests including Guest of Honour and Nepali communities participated in the program. Typical Nepali food was served at the end of program.
