Foreign Secretary Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi chaired a meeting of the Ambassadors of Nepal to Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Israel and Pakistan on 15 December in Muscat.
In the meeting, the Ambassadors updated the Foreign Secretary about the activities of the respective missions and shared their future plans. They also briefed the Foreign Secretary about the major works and suggested measures to solve the operational and managerial issues in coordination with and direction from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Chairing the meeting, the Foreign Secretary urged them to pay special attention to the protection of interests and welfare of a large number of Nepali migrant workers in the region. He also underscored the importance of making the best use of available resources, in line with the Government’s policy of maintaining fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability.
The Foreign Secretary mentioned that the Honorary Consuls of Nepal, working in places that could not be well served by residential missions, have been of great help in safeguarding and providing services to the growing number of Nepali nationals. Better oversight and clear instructions from the Ambassadors to the Honorary Consuls under their jurisdiction would result in effective service delivery from them, added the Foreign Secretary.
It may be recalled that a similar meeting of the Ambassadors of Nepal in the region was also held in September 2017 in Muscat on the occasion of the official visit of the then Prime Minister of Nepal.
