6th September 2018 The Embassy of Nepal participated in the two-day seminar on combatting Human Trafficking organized by the Government of the Sultanate of Oman in coordination with National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking (NCCHT) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the GCC countries from 3 to 4 September 2018.
The seminar identified the mechanisms and indicators for identifying and dealing with victims of human trafficking and conducting legal follow-up. The seminar recommended various measures to concerned authorities and law enforcement agencies for combating human trafficking. The Seminar also called for building capacities of the media on Human trafficking crimes, based on training manual of the United Nations to activate their role as an active partner in such cases.
Trafficking in Persons (TIP) varies across the globe and includes all types of the illegal exploitation of humans such as the use of threat, coercion, abuse over a person, exploitation of position and power and exploitation of weakness of those in need of work by illegal means directly or indirectly, slavery, prostitution, Serfdom and sexual exploitation, forced labor, the illegal removal and transferal of organs as a means of trade. TIP is against the Law, against the humanity and hence is a crime.
H.E. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman was present in the closing ceremony of the seminar.
